The Night Agent had everyone completely hooked when it dropped on Netflix last year and now, a second season is officially on its way!
The series, based on Matthew Quirk’s bestselling book, follows FBI agent Peter Sunderland (played by Gabriel Basso) who is plunged into a deep, political conspiracy and must then race to save his country.
Fans are already speculating about the details of the second instalment of the spy series, so, here is everything we know so far about season two of The Night Agent.
What is the The Night Agent season 2 release date?
Mark your calendars! Netflix has officially confirmed The Night Agent season 2 is arriving to our screens on 23rd January. That's just over two months away!
The streamer made the announcement on X late last week, telling followers "The Night Agent returns for Season 2 on 23 January!" along with a teaser clip of the new season. Watch it here:
When did The Night Agent season 2 begin filming?
In an update on X (formerly known as Twitter) on 5th February, Netflix posted a snap of Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland on set of the new series. So exciting!
And in June this year it was confirmed the series had wrapped up on filming for the new series.
What is The Night Agent about?
The Night Agent is a 10-part thriller that follows a low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland, who discovers conspirators inside the US government while working in The White House basement one night, along with rogue assassins and a murder witness named Rose who he needs to protect if he is ever going to find any answers.
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, the series stars Gabriel Basso as the titular character, Oscar-nominated Hong Chau, Fola Evans-Akingbola, D.B. Woodside and more.
When was The Night Agent season 2 confirmed?
The second season of the show was confirmed on 29th March 2023, less than a week after it debuted on Netflix. Series creator Shawn Ryan said he "couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on season two to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans."
Season two will also be 10 episodes, and it's one of the fastest renewals by Netflix to date, who usually like to keep fans waiting a little bit longer.
What might be the plot of The Night Agent season 2?
The end of season one saw Peter's jet off for his new job as a night agent, and Shawn says he hopes to explore what that means for his new relationship with Rose Larkin in the second season.
“What does Peter getting on this plane and going somewhere (presumably overseas to enter into some new wild adventure) mean, with Rose going back to California to try to pursue her Silicon Valley dreams again? We certainly have some initial ideas,” he told Tudum.
Luciane Buchanan, who plays Rose, says she also wants to explore this as well as seeing her character go back to pursuing her career in tech. "[The ending] leaves it really open-ended," she said. "I also want closure for her, I’m like, 'This girl needs a lot of therapy after everything she’s been through.'"
Gabriel Basso also said Peter still has his eyes on Farr. “Due to his belief in due process, he’s not going to be bummed she’s alive,” he said. “But if Farr eludes justice, he’ll be a little more wary of Travers. To be a traitor and not receive justice is not okay with Peter.”
Who will star in The Night agent season 2?
Some of our favourite characters unfortunately didn’t make it to the end of the first season (Erik Monks and Ben Almora, cries!) thanks to some crazed assassins, but we can expect the following actors to return for season two:
- Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland
- Luciane Buchanan Rose Larkin
- Hong Chau as Diane Farr
- Christopher Shyer as Vice President Redfield
- Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington
- Sarah Desjardins as Maddie Redfield
The Night Agent is streaming on Netflix now.
