The Flavor of the Day has been a Culver's tradition since we opened up our first restaurant in our hometown of Sauk City, Wisconsin. Every day you'll find a unique flavor of Fresh Frozen Custard featured at each Culver's, different from one restaurant to the next.

Our frozen custard is special because it's made fresh: slow-churned, right in the restaurant, in small batches. We prepare Fresh Frozen Custard multiple times a day, so your custard is always scooped from a fresh batch – no matter what time you stop by. And it's different from other frozen desserts.

Culver's uses fresh, never frozen beef, and the pressing and searing technique locks in the juices and therefore the flavor. Pressing the beef also ensures it is the right thickness to cook evenly on the grill. "That's where that great steak flavor comes from." The beef is seasoned with a salt and pepper mixture.

Culver's motto is, “Welcome to Delicious,” and our experience was that it is. The franchise founded in Wisconsin, features ButterBurgers and frozen custard treats as its signature dishes.

Growing up, Culver's co-founder Craig Culver loved nothing more than to enjoy a nice, crisp and refreshing Root Beer at his local carhop during the summer. Over the years, he learned to savor its delicious flavor even more by asking for it cold, but without ice, so it wouldn't melt and water down any of the taste.

The main difference between frozen custard and ice cream is that frozen custard is made with egg yolks and ice cream is not, giving the former a richer flavor and mouthfeel. Some ice creams are made with egg yolks, however, which would technically make them custards based on the USDA guidelines.

A concrete is made with frozen custard, hard ice cream or soft-serve ice cream. It typically doesn't include milk, but does incorporate mix-ins: candy, fruit, chocolate, etc. The main thing that distinguishes a concrete is its texture.

The acidic lime juice causes the cream-based Baileys to curdle. The curdled Baileys does not taste sour, but it does rapidly gain viscosity and stick to the drinker's teeth, reminiscent of cement. For a sweeter taste, two shot glasses, one of lemonade and one of Baileys, can be used.

Worst: Grilled Reuben Melt

The Grilled Reuben Melt at Culver's isn't the healthiest choice. This sandwich is notably high in fat, with 38 g of total fat, including 15 grams of saturated fat per serving.

Deciding what to serve with your pudding? Brands vary, but vanilla ice-cream typically has about 10 per cent more calories than custard, as well as twice the saturated fat, less protein and half the calcium and potassium. However, ice-cream usually has less sugar and salt, too.
